I’ve heard from angry readers who have come up against this when making claims for travel and car insurance. But businesses have been ­struggling to get money too – and it’s having a knock-on effect when customers ask for refunds.

Business interruption insurance is a policy many businesses take out to ensure against ­unforeseen events that affect the operation of their business. This type is designed for a ­pandemic-style of event, to protect loss of income that businesses ­experience as a consequence.
